Last week on my Friday blog post, Tick Tock, I reflected on the passage of time. No matter how you slice it, time is hurling by us at about mach 10 and if we don't find a way to make the most of it, we will end up wishing our lives away.
I have a 9-5 on top of my photography business, but I am working towards making my photography a full-time gig. It takes time a patience to run a successful business and I made the decision, a while back, to keep working at it everyday. Last week I vowed to do something outside my comfort zone to help grow my business, and I did.
Growing My Business
On Tuesday night, I attended a "Tuesday's Together" gathering. This is the local Detroit chapter of a national community of creatives called The Rising Tide. The meetings are held once a monthwhere a specific topic is discussed. This past Tuesday was all about blogging. Ironically, I didn't blog on Wednesday (Monday, Wednesday and Friday are my scheduled post days). I just ran out of time. However, the time I spent talking and learning about other creatives in my community was extremely engaging and fulfilling and well worth it.
Living in the Moment
The next vow I made was to spend each day with a present mind. I would not wish Monday to hurry up and turn into Friday or that this meeting would end so I could go to lunch. I replaced my wondering mind with productive tasks and the week actually flew by. So, instead of wasting my time wishing my life away, I invested my time developing a better business mind and stronger appreciation for what I have today.
The last vow was to spend less time cleaning up the morning messes and more time with my boys. I have to say, this is very difficult on school mornings. Some mornings my youngest has his own ideas about how the morning is going to go, with little regard for my schedule. I also can't just leave food on the floor, since our dog passed away, no one else is going to clean it up after my husband and I have left for work - I prefer an ant-free living!
In the end, I think my time was well spent. I have built a strong base to build off of. Each week will render a stronger person, mom, wife, photographer and business owner.
Did you have a goal in mind this week? How did it go for you? Leave me a message, I would love to hear what you have been up to.
