I talk in my sleep. My husband regales me with stories of how I talk and talk about nothing at all. In fact, according to him, the only language I speak, while sleeping, is Gibberish. You should hear him tell the stories, he tells them much better than me.
Eyes (Wide) Shut - I wish!
Most nights I fall asleep seconds after my head hits the pillow. However, occasionally I have a hard time quieting my thoughts so that I can get some shut eye. We have all been there - lying in bed, eyes wide open, mind racing with things that are bothering us, or something we are exited about, our to-do list, or maybe something happened that day that we just can't let go. You force yourself to close your eyes and will them to stay closed, but before you even realize your doing it, your staring at the ceiling again - it's like your eye lids are spring loaded
When the Sandman refuses to pay me a visit, I implement my fail-safe method to help me fall asleep fast - even when it's 2:30am and I'm so wide awake, it's like I just drank a vente 8-shot espresso from Starbucks. It's quiet simple - I count backwards from 100. Sound boring? Exactly. I am essentially boring myself to sleep. The trick is to picture each number in your mind and don't move on to the next number until you have a solid picture. I pick a fun font to render the numbers in my mind. This helps to get a solid image before moving on. 9 times out of 10, I don't get past 95 - no joke! If I get into the 80's I simply stop counting and start over at 100. This happens if I am letting my mind wonder and I am not fully concentrating on the numbers.
Next time you are having a hard time falling asleep, try my 99 second trick. Let me know if it works for you!
Sleep Tight! Cheers,
