Nine years ago today, was one of the best days of my life. On October 27, 2007, I married my best friend. It seems like only yesterday, yet it would be impossible to fit all the memories we've made together into a single day.
John's parents were also married on October 27, but 33 years prior, in 1974. My parents were married on June 27, 1970. Both our parents are still happily married at 42 and 46 years respectively. John had turned 27 the week before, making us both 27 years old on our wedding day (yes, I am older than John by 7 months and he reminds me, lovingly, on my birthday every year). With all this going for us, we had a good feeling that October 27, 2007 would prove to be a good day for us.
"...it's been one hell of a ride."
It rained the day of our wedding. It was about 80 degrees the weekend before and about 50 degrees and rainy on the 27th. I guess it's true what they say about rain on your wedding being good luck. Either that or it's just something people say to brides to make them feel better.
It rained all the way to the church and during the ceremony. Afterwards (thank God for long Catholic weddings) the skies began to clear and we were able get photos outside, with a dramatic sky and a bit of fall colors to boot.
It was an amazing day that went incredibly too fast. It was a fantastic start to our 9 years and counting.
Marriage is not easy all the time. Sometimes we disagree, and sometimes we argue, but it's because we love one another so much and want the best for each other and our family. We made a vow to love and honor each other until death and that is not something we take lightly. I feel so blessed to have John as my husband. We are complete opposites, which can be frustrating and refreshing all at the same time. We balance each other out, challenge one another and ground each other and it's been one hell of a ride. I wouldn't trade this for the world.
