When I think of fall family photo sessions, the first thing that comes to mind is bright colored, freshly fallen leaves, cool, crisp air and flannel shirts as far as the eye can see. OK, so maybe not that much flannel, but you get the point. A healthy does of flannel never hurt anybody!
Well, when my brother and sister-in-law asked if I would do a fall photo shoot for their family, I had flannel on the mind. Flannel, and a warm (by Michigan standards) fall evening with the golden hour working its magic. I did not envision cold, wind and snow and that's exactly what we got. I was determined to deliver at least a handful of beautiful family photos they could use for their Christmas card and with the Christmas season fast approaching we had to move fast. I had to contend with the snow.
Luckily, I remembered this really great indoor "mall" in the Village of Clarkston - a great alternative to braving the elements. There were a ton of little nooks and neat features inside and since all but one shop was closed, the boys had a blast running and jumping to their hearts content.
We didn't get the outside shots I had in mind, but we got some unique shots nonetheless. Jaime wore beautiful bright yellow pumps and we found that fabulous red door, so we got our fall color after all. And now, we have an excuse to get together in the spring for another round of family photos - outside this time!
What is your go-to indoor space for family photos? Is it your home or some place unique you stumbled upon in your travels?
It doesn't seem to be getting any warmer here in Michigan, so stay warm and dry my friend, wherever you are!
