As a little girl, my family traveled a lot. We had amazing opportunities to see some of the most beautiful places in the US. I have very fond and vivid memories of my dad, always with his camera hung around his neck, setting up family photos, well before the word “selfie” was ever coined. When I found his Nikon film camera in my parents cedar chest, I was immediately infatuated with the idea of capturing family moments. Here's is the link to get the beginning of my story: The How and Why of My Photography Business.
Fast forward a few decades and here I am with my only family, forever on the quest to preserve all our precious moments, so that they are never forgotten. But, that’s not enough. Wanting to create pretty photos is not going to keep me going through the inevitable rough patches or life and business. We have all been there…. With good intentions, we start something, dreaming of what it will become in the future, and then get busy with day-to-day life. Our good idea slips through the cracks and before we knew it, years, YEARS, have passed and we have missed out on valuable time.
A good friend of mine had a wonderful reminder hung in her office, and now I have the same one hung in mine – “A year from now you will wish you had started today.” But, you may be wondering, “that’s great, but what about those inevitable hard times you mentioned? What happens when life gets in the way? Well, my friend, that’s where my Fuel comes into play.
“A year from now you will wish you had started today.”
My kids are my fuel. They are my why.
I had an amazing childhood. My parents are supremely supportive and undying in their encouragement. But, it was a lot different 30-40 years ago. I know that when my kids are adults, being business savvy will be a requirement, not just a perk.
“This is more than a business. This is my calling.”
I am building a business that opens people’s eyes to what is important in life – family and relationships. I am building a business to serve people and help preserve their precious moments in life – moments that slip by in the blink of an eye. I am building a business so I can show my kids how they can live their dreams by applying perseverance, determination, hard work and love into their passions. I am building a business so at the end of the day I can be proud of what I have contributed to my family and to society. This is more than a business to me. This is my calling.
What are your dreams and goals in life? I would love to hear what fuels your fire!
