Who doesn't love celebrating 1st birthdays? Where the piles of presents are ignored, but the the empty boxes and gift bags are the hit of the day. Then there's the cake smash and mischievous smiles (yes, we know that you are putting your hands in the cake and no, we are not going to stop you). And finally, all the cute decor and great company. I imagine this is the reason why 30th birthday parties with smash cakes are so popular.
A WELL PLANNED DAY
I recently attended my friends, Katie and Ed's baby boys 1st birthday, and let me just say, it didn't disappoint. Katie and Ed are one of the most creative couples I know. I went through Landscape Architecture school with Katie (she always had the best creative solutions) and Ed, is an extremely talented artist and designer. So, you can probably guess that their son's woodland-themed 1st birthday party was absolutely beautiful. Their house was decorated perfectly to fit the theme, even down to the birthday boy's diaper (more on that later).
It was all in the details. Lunch was drool-worthy with smoky pulled pork, mac n' cheese, roasted potatoes and even pancakes on a stick, and that was just lunch. For dessert, they had s'mores on a stick and a delicious cake decorated to look like wood - all to be enjoyed with real wooden utensils. Is your mouth watering yet?
S'mores on a stick? Yes please!
To go along with the theme, guests were encouraged to wear plaid. As I mentioned, even the birthday boy was wearing plaid, from top to bottom (literally). Every little corner and shelf had cute little vignettes of woodland-inspired decor. Pine cones, tree branches, moss and even miniature woodland creatures, oh my! Even their dog, Riley was excited to attend and was much obliged to catch any scrapes of food that happened to land in her mouth.
We had a fantastic time and we are so happy that we got to help celebrate this little cutie's 1st birthday.
You may not have attended a woodland-themed birthday party (it was my first), but what birthday party themes have caught your eye? I am always looking for ideas for my two boys.
