As we begin our second week of the new year, I am finally beginning to feel like I am getting back into the swing of things. After a long holiday break spent being extremely lazy, and spending a much needed break away from social media and with my family, it's time to plan out the new year.
With the start of new things, I always try to set the goal to stay organized and on-top of things - the bigger the goal, the more organized I try to stay, as I should. Noticed I used the word "try" because let's be honest, being organized is awesome, but with little human tornadoes occupying the house, this is almost impossible to accomplish 100% (read 25%) of the time.
calendars make great gifts
For the past 6 Christmas' I have created calendars featuring my two boys and given them as gifts to their grandparents, and one for us to keep. I coordinate each month to showcase photos from that month the previous year. Throughout the year I try to make an effort to get at least a couple photos each month of my boys together and individually. Taking my camera to swimming and ice skating classes, vacations (OK, let's get real, we haven't taken a vacation in like 6 years) and zoo trips (which we do often since we are Detroit Zoo Members) ensures that I have plenty of photos to choose from for each month. Also, I like to make each calendar different, so when we visit the grandparents we get to see a whole new set of photos for that month. With a little bit of planning and organization, this task can come together in a snap (pun intended!).
get creating online
I use Picaboo as my online source for creating these calendars. There are many online photo sites out there, but I started using Picaboo many years ago and they have always been great for me. They are really easy to use and are constantly implementing additional user-friendly aspects to their site - which is really helpful when it's mid-December and you intended these to be Christmas gifts.
If you are looking for a more personalized approach to planning for 2018 or need a creative/useful gift for the in-laws, this is a great option. Just remember, it takes a year to plan a year, so get started - you'll be happy you did!
