There are so many things to think about as a bride planning your wedding. Finding THE dress, deciding on food, finding your photographer... the list goes on. One of the first things I did after John and I got engaged was ask my favorite girls to be my bridesmaids. I could hardly contain my excitement - knowing that these ladies would be there by my side as I married the man of my dreams, but... I did it all wrong.
GET CREATIVE
Now, I would describe myself as a creative person, but when it came to asking my bridesmaids to be with me on my wedding day, I totally missed the creative boat. Of course, I didn't even realize this until years, yep YEARS, later. In 2013 my wonderful friend Callista asked me to be her bridesmaid - to be more accurate, she actually proposed!
HANDCRAFTED INVITATIONS
There are countless online companies offering dozens, if not more, printed bridesmaid invitations. However, did I mention that Callista and I met in Landscape Architecture school? Callista is very creative and like me, loves to create things. So when I received a letter from her several months before her wedding, I was not surprised that it was perfectly handcrafted.
Callista had a total of 5 bridesmaid and each of us got a personalized proposal. Not only was it extremely beautiful, it was so heartwarming. The time and energy she put in to creating each of these invitations was touching and something I will always keep as a reminder of our wonderful friendship.
NOW, LET'S GO SHOPPING
As I was looking through the bridesmaid invitation, marveling at her creativity and feeling honored that she chose me, I was yet again taken aback. Not only would we be traveling to Key West, Florida to partake in the festivities, Callista and her fiance, Eddie, would be paying for our bridesmaid dresses!
They gifted us money to put towards a dress, accessories and as if that wasn't enough, we got to pick out our own dresses. With just a few guidelines and some inspirational images, it was time to go shopping!
If you are engaged and you are trying to come up with a unique way to ask your besties if they would be your bridesmaids, this is a fun way to do it. I will leave you with a few more images to help you get your creative juices flowing.
Congrats on your engagement! Now, go have fun, get creative and get asking!
Cheers,
Lisa
